All About Me

My name is Lola Solano.  I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana.  I have lived in Mobile, Alabama for 10 years.  I love to create and try new things.  I love to sew, paint, draw, bake birthday cakes, and create themed parties for my children.  I have a Bachelors in Elementary Education.  I became pregnant 11 years ago and had my first child. I did not return to teaching. Then three more girls followed. Jonah is 11, Elaina is 9, Julia is almost 6, and Lila is 4. My husband Joseph and I have been married for 14 years this past July.
My passion for now is my children's birthday parties.  We sit down and pick a theme and I create games and decorate according to the theme.  My favorite party I have put together so far is my daughter Julia's Alice in Wonderland.  I created her dress.  It was a white apron with all the Alice in Wonderland characters embroidered on it and a blue dress under the apron just like Alice's.  I created all the games to go with the theme and I also made her cake with Alice and the White Rabbit hand drawn on it.
I first decided to go into the field of Elementary Education because of my love to create, nurture, and mold.  I thought what better people to show my love for art, be a loving caregiver to and mold their little brains to be future leaders.  Kids love to learn. If you provide them with the right tools and a little guidance, their minds take off.  I can see this everyday in my own children. I still remember all the teachers that have had an impact on my life. I want to be a teacher that makes a difference, that is remembered.  I am taking this class to renew my certification.  I chose USA mainly because I was afraid of online courses.  Well hear I am in a web based class.
After 11 years not working in the school system, I feel totally lost.  I am excited about taking this class because I really would love to know what the internet has to offer for both teachers and students.  My children (even the 4 year old) play games on the computer, Wizard 101 and Free Realms.  They become so engrossed in the games and play for hours.  They know how to navigate on the computer better than I do. I have never seen a blog before until I read an article on Yahoo about Melissa Ethridge's wife having a blog.  Of course, there was a link so I clicked on it.  I was curious.  I do not understand why someone would want to have an ongoing diary of their life on the internet. I am sure that is not the only thing blogs are good for, so hopefully I will understand blogging better after this class.  I am ready to learn!

  1. My wife loves theme parties. I tell her she could make a living out of her ideas. And as for blogs - in EDM310 they are the central repository of your intellectual journey. I think they are the single most important tool we have for learning in this new technological age. I hope you will come to agree with me and be a blogging teacher.
